This morning we had breakfast at a great diner with Neil and Kersta before hitting the road again. It was sad to say goodbye – especially not knowing when we’ll see these good friends again – but since they also love Oregon, Steve and I hope that someday the four of us will end up out there, living next door to each other and playing Taboo every evening.

On our way to Ottawa we stopped in the town of Kingston which is home to Queen’s University (Kersta’s alma mater). We hope this picture will make Neil drool; he had recommended this restaurant and we thought the food was amazing.

Kingston was really nice, right on the water with lots going on downtown. Yet another place to visit again someday . . .

We continued on and arrived in Ottawa in the evening. My Mom’s sister Nan and her family live in a great house right in the Glebe area of town and we were thrilled that they had offered to host us for a couple of nights. Pete cooked up a wonderful steak dinner on the grill and it was so nice to catch up with Nan and Pete as well as my cousins Karen and Glen.

Relaxing in the Judge’s backyard after our great dinner.

Steve and Glen looked through “1,000 Places to See Before You Die” to see which sites were listed for Ottawa.

We then went for a walk along the famous Rideau Canal. In the winter, the canal becomes the largest naturally frozen ice rink in the world. It is equal in size to 90 Olympic skating rinks!

After our walk, we headed to the airport to pick up my Mom who is going to be visiting for a few days. Nan and Pete were such great hosts and we are really looking forward to exploring Ottawa tomorrow!

The Judges are indeed a very special family and I am so glad we are having some time with them. Glen and Karen have even given up their air-conditioned bedrooms for us - true love!

I'm thrilled to be here and be part of SOSA! Love,
Mum
